FAQ's
How can I make a Public Records request?
We recommend using this online public portal to submit a request for information. This will allow you to track and monitor the status of your request, and receive most documents in response to your request. You may also fax your request or come to our office in person, but please know we still follow the 10 business days.
How long will it take before I get a response?
The Public Information Act requires that Chambers County respond "promptly" and "without delay." The County will contact you within 10-business days from receipt of your request to notify you of the status of release of your records.
If the County deems it necessary to request a ruling from the Office of the Attorney General, the requester will be notified within 10 business days. The Office of the Attorney General has 45 business days to respond to the County with their ruling.
What is a business day?
A business day means a day other than a Saturday or Sunday, a national holiday under Section 662.003(a) of the Government Code, or a state holiday under Section 662.003(b) of the Government Code. There are optional holidays that may be designated as well.
How much does it cost to make a Public Information Request?
There is no initial cost to submit a Public Information Request. If there is a cost associated with fulfilling your request, you will receive notification of the estimated cost in writing.
